The Swanzey Recycling Center is a NH Department of Environmental Services permitted facility licensed to receive, process, and dispose of virtually all solid waste generated within the Town. (Items classified as household hazardous waste are the exception.) The town employees who staff the Center are trained and certified as facility attendants by the State of New Hampshire.

At the Center you’ll find a “user-friendly” environment in which to recycle all grades of paper, aluminum, cans and scrap metal, #1 and #2 grades of plastic containers, glass, construction debris, clothing, batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, used cooking oil, electronic devices, fluorescent tubes, yard waste, aggregate, and even cell phones. Consult the Center’s green sheet for details on how to prepare these materials for recycling.

We continually strive to increase re-use and recycling in Swanzey. By supporting businesses and institutions in their efforts to recycle, we can help reduce solid waste disposal costs. We welcome the opportunity to address businesses, organizations and school groups. Please call if you’d like to arrange a tour of the facility.

Your Recycling Center is funded through the local portion of property taxes. In 2010 Swanzey voters supported the establishment of a revolving fund to collect income from the sale of recyclables (not including drop-off fees). This fund will be used for Recycling Center improvements. To learn more about how this will work and what it will do for the town, please talk with Center staff.

Tire Amnesty Day
Conducted annually on a Saturday in June, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

To help prevent the spread of West Nile Virus, the Center will accept up to four regular automobile tires per household, free of charge. Tires must be removed from their rims, and proof of residency is required.
    In addition to properly disposing of discarded tires, Recycling Center staff encourage Swanzey citizens to minimize or keep clean the places on their property where water collects. For example,
  *  Turn over wheelbarrows
  *  Make sure roof gutters drain properly, and clean them in the fall and spring
  *  Change birdbath water twice a week
  *  Aerate ornamental pools, or stock them with fish.

   Remember, mosquitoes will develop in any puddle lasting longer than four days.
